Daniël Fast, Day 1

Good afternoon my lurking lurkers,

Since yesterday I started a 21 days lasting fast that allows me to only consume water, fruits, vegetables and nuts. It is called the Daniël Fast, named after Daniël of the Bible. It’s a biblical based partial fast, based on two accounts of the Prophet Daniel’s fasting experiences (seed Daniel 1 and 10) and typical Jewish fasting principles. The Daniel Fast eating plan is similar to a vegan diet with additional restrictions.

I was inspired by one of the elderly of my church who had just finished their Daniël Fast last week. The man is 74 years old and I just thought it was so encouraging and inspirational to see this old man being so devoted to complete the 21 days of fasting. Luckily the Indonesian kitchen and lots of Asian kitchens have plenty of vegan recipes. But the most important focus of this project is to find restoration and refocus on God, His power and His Word.

It is not easy. I enjoy my coffee very much each morning. But caffeine , alcohol and soda are not allowed. That means no coffee, no tea, no energy drinks and no wine during these 3 weeks. I love chicken and cheese and eggs but nope, I cannot have any of those either. No meats, no animal fats, no milk products.

The bible only has 2 specific lines about what Daniël the prophet ate during his fasting. After googling the interwebs for more info on the Daniël Fast, I came to the discovery that there are numerous of websites that provide info about it. Some are quite contradicting. But there’s a few books and sites out there that seem to be legit.

This site from Susan Gregory seems very legit: http://daniel-fast.com/. It provides all sorts of guidelines, recipes and of course Biblical inspiration. Very handy. These 21 days will be interesting. It will be a challenge to not drink nor eat a lot of my favorite foods and drinks, but I do like fruit and veggies and nuts and I am looking forward to it.

That will be all for now. I have to go out and buy some groceries because I am all out of fruit. Please do not forget to check out my fabulous Red Bubble shop and help feed a starving blogger out. I wish you a good day and God speed.

Thank you for lurking
