I actually intended to post this on the 17th of June, that’s when we celebrate Father’s Day in Holland. But I just saw now that the post was still saved as a draft and never published…
I’ll post it now though… Better late than never? tee-hee!
According to wikipedia:
Father’s Day is a celebration honoring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society. Many countries celebrate it on the third Sunday of June, but it is also celebrated widely on other days. Father’s Day complements Mother’s Day, a celebration that honors mothers and motherhood.
In Holland we celebrate Fathers Day…. Today, on the 17th of June, actually. I send my dad a postcard and a spoon with Barbapapa on it. Cause it has the word “papa” in it. I was hoping for him to get the joke, I thought it was funny anyway.
So I called him later on that day. He did thought the spoon was funny. He actually used it for breakfast! Had a short chit-chat about the soccer match between the orange Dutch team and the red Portugese team. When I told him I was all in red rooting for the Portugese he did laugh… Like a farmer with no teeth….
