Patty Piñata’s short life

Well then. It finally happened today. Patty didn’t know what hit her today. Above you can see how Patty was made in the slideshow. Unfortunately we hadn’t made pictures of the way beginning, because you start with just a balloon and old newspapers and glue. But you’ll get the picture.

FYI; that’s me holding the massive piñata through the window. Patty had the weight of a skinny 8 year old. Somehow I told my friend a few days ago how I’d love to be lifting weights again. I sure had my share of lifting weights today while holding up Patty on a rope with the kids standing in line to beat her up with a stick. Yeah man, can really feel my abs now. Better than the gym, better than lifting some cold steel; lifting a life-sized doll stuffed with candy is much more fullfilling.

After working on Patty Piñata for 1,5 month on and off, the chocolate brown princess got horridly butchered by the kids today. They were all really up to it. I video taped it with my cheap samsung phone camera. Might share it on this blog later on as well, need to edit it first though. I sure had a good laugh. We all did really.

The birthday of my best friend’s kid was mad fun. In the morning I made her kid some pancakes and my best friend and I gave the kid her presents we had for her afterwards. My mom and I made a dress for her and I also bought a vest to wear with it. My best friend got her kid some educational games and this glitter painting which the kid can make by herself. The kid really loved her presents.

Then the birthday cake arrived which my best friend had ordered. It was this gorgeous pink and white cake with the picture of my best friend’s kid on it. The cake tasted very good too, with coconut and strawberry filling; yummm.

When all the guests had finally arrived, it was time for games. Unfortunately it was raining off and on so we couldn’t go to the beach as we had planned. But thankfully we did have enough dry moments to do some outdoor activities in the neighborhood. My best friend had organized this dancing contest for the kids to do indoors. Later on we also had a contest outside, where they had to jump with ropes, throw hoops and fish candy out of a bucket with their mouth. We also played dodgeball. And then of course, the grand finale; the smashing up of Patty the piñata.

We had this lovely Italian soup which I had prepared for dinner with the kids afterwards. I made too much soup, though. I tend to cook as if I’d be cooking for an orphanage sometimes. We could feed the entire block with the amount of soup I’ve cooked up yesterday for this party. Might share the recipe later on as well. The kids all loved the soup. The adults who stuck around loved it also. It’s very rich in flavors; lots of vegetables and some Italian spices. Yeah, I’m pretty proud of how it all went along today.

We had also planned to do some karaoke. But the kids were beat after all those in and outdoor games. Most of the party guests had left before it got dark outside. Then it was just my best friend, another friend and their kids and me. So we had some time to take a look at all the pictures we had snapped of the party, and watch the film I had taped off the piñata butchering. Had some wine, chatted and laughed some.

The last party guest actually left 2 hours ago. We put my best friend’s kid to bed and now… I’m beat.

Tomorrow will be a slow day. The kid’s actual birthday is tomorrow but having a b-day party on a Sunday didn’t seem right so that’s we had it today, on a Saturday. I guess there will be some friends dropping by tomorrow too, though; to wish the kid a happy b-day. And maybe we’ll watch a movie or I could just go creative with the kid and make that glitter painting with her. That glitter painting sure looks like a lot of fun to make. But we’ll just see how it goes, go with the flow of the day.

The good part about a rainy yet sunny day is that rainbows appear. So my best friend’s kid had a rainbow for her b-day party as well today. How cute is that? The kid sure loved it, somehow made the day extra special.

It was such a nice day today. And now… Now it’s off to bed for me. Gotta give my abs some rest… Tee-hee.
