This upcoming Friday on August 17 Indonesia celebrates it’s independence day. I’ve already written a little bit about my own family background and my Indonesian roots in a previous entry (Poof – family history). For a detailed story about what happened in WWO2 in Indonesia and how the country declared it’s independence from the Dutch back in 1945, feel free to read this and read here.
All I’d like to bring you for now is the Indonesian Anthem, which is displayed above with lyrics for those who like to sing along.
Below, I share with you the English translation of the Indonesian Anthem.
Indonesia, my native land
The land where I shed my blood
Right there, I stand
To be the guide of my motherlandIndonesia, my nationality
My nation and my homeland
Let us exclaim
“Indonesia unite!”Long live my land, long live my state
My nation, my people, entirely
Build its soul, build its body
For Great IndonesiaREFRAIN:
Great Indonesia, independent & free!
My land, my country which I love
Great Indonesia, independent & free!
Long live Indonesia the Great!Great Indonesia, independent & free!
My land, my country which I love
Great Indonesia, independent & free!
Long live Indonesia the Great!
