Yep, it’s autumn alright. It’s just so cold right now, not funny at all.
Anyway.
A friend of mine had the record release party of her band New Blues about an hour ago. My sis and I were invited to check it out. This girl plays the bass guitar in the band; she’s mad good at it. Then again, I’m a sucker for a nice thick bass in any given song. I’m a sucker for blues too, because of the nice basslines. Sure loved her solo’s tonight XD
Not only did my friend’s band play, there were also two other bands worth mentioning. The opening act was a band called Unknown Melody, who played covers mostly. They were alright. Had the feeling they hadn’t performed that much before, the singer came off as a bit… Uncomfortable. But she had a good voice and the bass was nice. I love bass, tee-hee.
Then there was also this band called 3rd Floor Magic. Now they were something. They combine all sorts of sounds; rap, funk, reggea, rock and even house and it all sounded great. The band has two vocalists; a girl who used to sing in New Blues and a rapper. Those guys sure know how to give a performance. What a load of energy; wow! Check out their website.
There was a sad tone throughout the entire party though; the drummer of New Blues passed away last month. Poor guy got killed in a car accident. The entire performance was dedicated to the drummer. In half of their show, they used his drum parts from the CD so that he could “still perform” along with the band. It was sad, beautiful and special at the same time.
Throughout the entire evening, a picture of the drummer was displayed on the background and even aired a little clip of him singing this one song during rehearsals. It was… Special… Here and there people were shedding tears. Everything was just so touching . Ithink it was really brave of New Blues to give away such a wonderful and touching show with such energy and devotion. I bet the drummer would’ve been proud.
It was an inspirational evening, that’s for sure.
And it’s still pretty cold. I think I better crawl in my warm bed….
