I remember a few years back. Back when I was still a hyperactive girl in dressed in rainbow colored outfits. Back when I thought I could take on the whole world. Back then, I went to Flevo Festival for the first time.
It’s a Christian Rock Festival. It’s just as loud as any other rock festival. With the difference that most of the people visiting the festival have a religious background. From a distance it sounded like any other festival but when you walk amoung the festival visitors there’s an atmosphere almost compared to a Revival Weekend. Peaceful and friendly.
The other thing I enjoyed about this Flevo Festival is the fact that most of the musicians performing there aren’t well known amoung the mainstream audience. I got to know a whole new scene with different kinds of funky christian musicians there at Flevo Festival. Like the funky 4th Avenue Jones, who combine rock and rap with an electric violin and funky beats. Or the British drum-n-bass band TheBandWithNoName. Not all christian music has to be slow and sappy like most people assume. There’s some really hardcore funky stuff out there with a Christian undertone. Stuff that somehow probably will never be aired on mainstream radio or television for the fact that it’s… Christian? Which is a shame really.
I could go on about the list of Christian musicians but that would just fill up more words in this blog post. Maybe I’ll make a post solily to list those Christian rockbands and musicians some other time. Right now I’d like to post just this one particulair band.
There was this one band in particulair that caught my attention at Flevo Festival. They sounded like a mix of the Beatles gone electric with some funky bass guitar in there. Throughout the years the band has changed it’s name an bandmembers. Lyrically wise this band is very creative as well. Some songs sound almost prophetic. They’re positive attitude and energy on and off stage are just inspiring. Live, this is one of the best bands I’ve ever seen out there.
I could write a lot more about them, but you’d have to listen to their stuff to understand. Cause it just sounds so different, so unique to what else is out there in the music industry so far.
So…. here’s some Youtube clips with songs that made me fall in love with the band formally known as The Rock n Roll Worship Circus, now going by the name of The Listening. Check out their new stuff too, if you have the time/change/willing to do so.
I love the last video you post! I was there too. Could listen to that song all day 🙂
You were there too? Ah, that was a glorious day at the festival. Those guys rock XD
