Download junkie

Yes. It’s been a month since my last post. I’ve had plenty of brain farts during the time I haven’t posted anything in this blog. It’s just… Been caught up in stuff. Stuff I won’t bore you with.

I’ve also been caught up in downloading stuff.

I’ve been addicted to this peer-to-peer downloading since Napster first came out. I remember back then how cool I felt as a 14 year old, downloading Backstreet Boys and Blink 182 songs. I was broke all the time and being able to find my favorite music for free was pretty lucrative to me. Especially when it’s a new band or singer. I just wanted to have a preview, know what it sounds like before actually buying a CD.

And yes, I actually bought a lot of the CD’s I downloaded first. But then the habbit started to mutate. Suddenly I just had to download, for the sake of downloading. It’s like wanting to smoke a cigarette with your cup of coffee, just because you want to smoke a cigarette with a cup of coffee. Because you’ve done that all the time. Because you’re weak for addictive habbits. An addict. A junkie. Yes, I’m a download junkie.

The thing with CD’s though, is that I’m not good at keeping them scratch free. And when the pile keeps growing too, more and more CD cluttering up my desk. Let’s not even begin with my Xbox collection, it needs an entire closet to be stashed away in a neat and orderly way. And I’ve lost a bunch of good CD’s before. Borrowed them to friends to never get them back, or by just simply stepping on them by accident. Yes, I’m a cluts. I’ve been moving around a lot the passed few years and I swear I’ve actually lost a bunch of good CD’s during that process also.

Yet another convience about downloading is that I can store a over a thousand songs, movies and games on an external harddrive. No more scratched CD’s, no huge pile of CD cases or losing a favorite CD. Just one simple external hard drive. I love my hard drive. It contains all my favorite stuff.

Now I know musicians and movie makers need to get paid too. I know I shouldn’t be thinking stuff like; “Ah, they already live in a large mansion what should it matter if they make one penny less of me?” But it’s an addiction, really. It gives such a rush to type out “The Gremlins Movie” or “Fort Minor” on torrentz.eu and actually being able to find what I’m looking for! The rush of seeing the meter of your download moving from 0 to 100% and then seeing the message “finished” is just… Undescribable really.

Yo, The Gremlins rock! I laughed so hard watching it again after such a long time. Gizmo humming with his cute little song. The new Batch going buck wild in New York. Ah, memories.

Ah… I just find it so wrong that people who download are concidered criminal offenders. How someone who downloaded a Will Smith CD can actually end up in jail and do more time than a murderer in some countries. It’s odd really. But that’s an old discussion already so ba-humbug. I love downloading. Am going to look for some good old 80’s en 90’s movies now.

I have to go.
